Welcome Back and New Personal Electronic Device Policy

August 30, 2024

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate. We look forward to another year of learning, growing, and helping students achieve their full potential.

New for the 2024-25 school year, the Government of Saskatchewan is requiring all school divisions to ban the use of personal electronic devices (PED) during instructional time in kindergarten to Grade 12. This policy is intended to lessen the negative impacts of personal electronic devices in classrooms and support teachers and school staff in promoting a productive classroom environment. The directive recognizes that some students may have medical or additional needs that require the use of a personal electronic devices. Exemptions may be approved when the PED is required for specific medical accommodations or learning adaptations as recommended by a physician or health professional. Additionally, teachers may request the use of personal electronic devices for planned specific instructional purposes. These requests will require prior approval of the school administration.

Our policy will be included in our updated handbook and posted on Edsby.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact school administration.

We hope everyone has a great start to the new school year!
