Volleyball

At Sheldon-Williams we offer four volleyball teams: Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Senior Girls, and Senior Boys. The teams usually run at least two tryouts before the start of the season in order to select the teams. On average, teams have between 4 – 5 practices a week in addition to playing league games once a week. Many of the teams also participate in weekend tournaments either in Regina or surrounding area. There will be a sign-up meeting for all players in room 107 at 3:30 on Tuesday September 3rd. If you cannot make it please see Mr. Zach sometime during the day.

Soccer

All boys interested in playing soccer should attend a try-out, Tuesday, September 3, and Wednesday, September 4th, from 3:45 - 5:00 at Turtle Park. Bring your soccer gear the first day of school. There will be a girls soccer meeting after school in the gym on Tuesday September 3rd. At Sheldon-Williams we offer two soccer teams: Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer. Girls Soccer practices usually run on Tuesday and Thursdays while their games begin in September on Mondays and Wednesday and go until late October. Boys Soccer practices usually run on Mondays and Wednesdays while their games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

Cross-Country

Do you want to get into shape? Learn how to run? Have Fun? Then the Spartan Cross Country team is for you! There will be an information and sign-up meeting for cross country on Wednesday, September 4th in room 207 at noon. The course walkthrough will be Thursday, September 5th at Douglas Park at 4:15 PM and the first practice is Monday, September 9th at 3:30, meet in the gym. Golf

Spring Golf 2019 will consist of two formats: Novice/Beginner Golfers & Competitive Golfers.

Novice/Beginner golfers practice and learn the basics of the swing and golf etiquette. We practice weekly on the range and complete our season with a team/individual challenge at the beginning of June.

Competitive Golfers have a two pool league with other athletes from around the city and compete in weekly challenges at the Royal Regina Golf Club. These competitions lead up to the City Championships in June.

Track and Field

Track and field is for all ages and genders and involves student-athletes competing in running, jumping and throwing events.  The track and field team begins practices after the Spring Break and the season finishes with the Provincial championships at the beginning of June.  Practices are held at both Sheldon-Williams Collegiate and Douglas Park along with practice "mini-meet" competitions and the city championships at Douglas Park in May.  Participating in track and field is a great way to learn techniques that are transferable to other sporting activities and ALL are welcome to be a part of the track and field team.

Football

Spartan football is open to all Sheldon Williams Collegiate students.  It begins the week before classes start.  Practices run after school for about 2 hours and occasionally we have practices on weekends.  Football helps students learn about commitment, sportsmanship, dedication, and teamwork.  There are 6-7 league games, and then playoffs.  The winner of the city championship moves on to compete for a spot in the provincial championship.  Go Spartans!

Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate is an exciting, non-contact team sport, played by thousands the world over. It mixes the best features of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, and Football into a simple yet fast paced game. Ultimate is a co-ed sport and players work together to move the disc from one end of the field to the other in order to score points. The most important element of the game is Spirit as players are taught to play with good sportsmanship and participate in fun spirit games at the end of a match in order to build community and camaraderie with other teams and players.

Flag Football

The Girls High School Flag Football League is a non-contact sport, for girls in grades 9 to 12, that provides an opportunity to learn new skills and to develop as a person in a team environment.  Flag Football is an excellent way to develop skills as a quarterback, running back, defensive back, and receiver.  This is an opportunity to represent your school and compete for your chance to play in a provincial championship!  Season starts in May.  Our school will have a senior and a junior team.

Badminton

Badminton season starts after February break. Badminton practices will be twice a week, usually Mondays and Tuesdays after school Games will be once a week on Wednesdays after school, held at various schools around the city.

Handball

At Sheldon-Williams we offer a Senior boys, Junior Boys and Female Handball Team. For more information on our Handball teams please visit the Spartans Handball Team Page.

Hockey

At Sheldon-Williams we offer a Hockey Team where both male and female athletes are welcome.  The team has two tryouts/practices before the season starts in order to choose the team.  The season runs from November to March.  There are 11 League Games before heading into a final Playoff Tournament.

Wrestling

Wrestling starts on Nov. 19th, in the wrestling room at 3:30. It is open to all students. We are proud to have Coach Leo McGee coaching our team this year. Coach Leo was the Coach at the University of Regina since 1985. There he won two National Titles and 10 Canada West Championships and a was a seven time winner of Canada West Coach of the year. 

Basketball

Curling

At Sheldon-Williams we usually have Junior Curling teams (for grade 9s and 10s, any combination of boys and girls) who play on Mondays after school, and Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams (for students up to Grade 12) who play on Tuesdays after school. There are usually a couple of meetings and practices in late October and early November, League games start early November and there are games once a week for each team until the end of January. Playoffs take place at the start of February. Curling is a low-cost sport to participate in, and everyone is welcome (including beginners)!
